淺層砂過濾器利用深層介質對原水進行深層過濾，能有效地去除顆粒物和降低濁度。若裝上特定的濾料，例如活性炭，沸石等，還可以吸附去除相應的有機物、離子等。
工作原理
    過濾狀態：當系統處于過濾狀態時，加壓水從濾罐進口流入布水系統，均勻的到達濾料層，當水流過濾料層時，懸浮物被濾料截留。過濾器底部帶有精密縫隙的集水器，過濾后的水被均勻收集，并流出過濾器。集水器上精密的縫隙能有效防止濾料的流失。
    反沖洗狀態：隨著雜質在濾料層中的不斷積聚，壓力損失不斷增加，當壓差增加到某一設定值時（或達到某一設定的時間值時），系統將自動轉換至反洗狀態。加壓水通過過濾器底部集水裝置進入濾料層，對其進行沖刷，使截流的污染物脫落并排出過濾器。

    采用全自動控制過濾系統，采用模塊化設計，根據流量的大小，選擇多個過濾單元。可采用時間，壓差等多種方式自動啟動反沖洗，系統內各過濾單元依次進行反沖洗，其他單元仍然在過濾。反沖洗效率高，反沖洗時間短，反沖洗時節水。濾料具有更好的耐細菌污染能力，反沖洗效果更好。

    工業用水的過濾。如：鋼廠氧槍水、褐爐、熱交換器供水的過濾等，可過濾掉水中的雜質，避免管路及噴嘴的堵塞。
    工業循環水的旁濾系統，生產水的再循環、工業廢水處理。
    原水的處理。可對地表河水，湖水、海水、水庫水、井水以及城市自來水作為水源的城市小區分質供水等進行過濾，除去水中的砂粒、懸浮物、藻類、有機物等。
    農業灌溉。尤其適用于高流量、雜質含量好的水源，如農田水利灌溉、公園及高爾夫球場上草坪的澆灌等。
